I googled it yesterday out of curiosity during a conversation about life, religion and purpose, with one of my staff.
Did you know that there is 10,000,000 living species on the planet?
10,000,000 different living species.
And each one of us reading this was born as a Human Being.
The only specie that can think, learn, teach, write, anticipate, be conscious of it's existence, create advanced technology, create hundreds of languages & cultures, feels a wide spectrum of emotion, etc.
We are born with a bunch of features that 99.9% of the other species won't even get remotely close to get.
We could have been born as a larva spending half of it's life eating poop, or as a weird albinos shrimp living hundreds of meters deep in the ocean until being eaten by any fish.
But we are born as a Human Being.
And we did absolutely nothing to deserve it in the first place.
Literally, the only reason why you are reading those words instead of licking your ass after pooping, is because your parents are Human Beings and not dogs.
Now, I know we are far from being perfect as Human Beings, and I know we fucked up a lot of things since we arrived down here.
That's what happens when we feel entitled, lack gratefulness and take everything we got for granted.
Remember it, it was 1 chances in 10,000,000. And you didn't do anything to deserve it.
It's about the same probability you'd have of winning the US National Lottery Jackpot.
So now, you got this life, what are you going to do with it?
I can't answer for you.
But what I know for sure, is that the next time I feel unlucky, I will remember this, and get some perspective on what luck actually means at our life's scale.
We all win and lose at some point.
But we're all part of the one and only winning specie that can actually make a conscious change in this World.
Don't waste it complaining or living an ungrateful and meaningless life.
